ME COPY.JPG photography (2013)
The inspiration for my project came from the German artist Claudia Angelmaier. She analyses the relationship between originals and replicas by taking photographs of artwork reproductions. Both, the artwork itself and its representation medium, are showed. Angelmaier’s appreciation is related to "Appropriation Art".
In my opinion, the effects of recreation with different artwork reproductions is fascinating. My idea was to transfer this aspect to an interactive level – the reproduction of myself. I compare the differences between "Original Me" and "Copy Me" by replicating my body with a scanner in full-scale. Afterwards, the actual reproduction takes place by interacting with some probands and their printers. I assigned each person with the task to print one of my 15 body parts by using their standard home printer. As a result, the 15 prints are very unequal and differ in terms of quality, color, brightness and defects which all come along with their own particular impression.
In contrast to Claudia Angelmaier’s artwork, my project allows a real comparison between the copy and the original by placing myself next to the printed body parts.
